2003 Pfeiffer Christopher’s VP 18%
Rutherglen, driven by Touriga
Good colour but showing some age (20 years?). blueberry and violets, baking spices; savoury, and seems like Portuguese varieties, but not from Portugal – I got the area right, and very close on the age.

2003 Stanton & Killeen Vintage fortified 18.5%
Rutherglen(35% Shiraz, 22% Durif, 18% touringa, 10% tinta cao, 19% tinta barocca, 5% tinta roriz)
Colour is denser, liquorice and aniseed, some green notes; raspberry and red cherry; very clean spirit, higher alcohol than wine #1. It has more grip, but more syrupy too. Looks very, very different to wine #1. I went for Portuguese, but an LBVP or single quinta rather than a declared VP. And a similar age 2002-2005. When another taster correctly pointed out the mocha, I reversed back to Australia.

Grown only 3 kilometers apart, and very different despite the winemakers (Chris Killeen and Chris Pfeiffer) collaborative fascination and obsession with the style. Two well made wines which were both drinking well.
